Te Huruhi School, Waiheke Island

From a conventional fund-raising phone call in May 2019 Takutai Trust’s involvement has grown into a meaningful contribution.

The original school was past its use by date and after many years of campaigning, the Ministry of Education agreed to build a new school in 2016 – the budget was around 23 million dollars. Typical of government budgets the number was at the bare minimum.

The contract was fraught with bad luck including 2 main building contractors going broke and several bad weather storms. A year late and with much still to do including landscaping, equipment, and “the hall” we got involved.

At the start of 2022 the finished article is a credit to many people, and we count ourselves in that group. It will prove to be a terrific asset to the community for many years to come.
